2000: The Honorable Anthony Masiello has officially signed the legislation which extends tax assessment appeals. The official signing took place after a very poorly attended public hearing was held on the matter on the 20th. Challenges will now be accepted by the City of Buffalo until January 31st.
The legislation, which was first introduced by Council-member At-large, Charley Fisher III, was signed into law on January 20. Fisher is quite pleased with his first major accomplishment as an elected official. He said, This is a simple but important measure that will make a tremendous difference for many homeowners. The month of December is a very hectic time for most people. I believe it is unfair to homeowners to limit the assessment grievance process to the month most people are focused on the holidays. I want to thank the Mayor for allowing us to extend the deadline so that everyone who wishes to has the opportunity to avail themselves the property assessment grievance process.
Now that the legislation has been officially passed, Niagara District Councilmember Dominick Bonifacio is continuing his efforts to ensure that constituents get a fair tax assessment. Nick will be working in conjunction with CEM to hold an assessment workshop on January 27th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. It will be held at Concerned Ecumenical Ministries which is located at 286 Lafayette Avenue.
Mr. Bonifacio commented on the workshop by saying, Theyve done it here (in CEM) in the past, and I would rather handle it here anyway. If we can get most of the forms started and signed, then I will be able to get back to the office and take care of the rest.
